Public Space is the mirror of society. It’s the place where we perform our every-day cultural exchange. We meet, eat, party, play, demonstrate and clash in public space.
With the ‘We Love Public Space’ Festival (WLPS) we celebrate public space and pay tribute to everyone who is professionally involved in city making. The aim of the Festival is to establish a conversation about how city makers deal with developments that determine the design and use of public space.
The WLPS Festival is broadly oriented and freely accessible; an open and dynamic platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between city makers; from architect to artist, from designer to urban planner.

Steeds meer kunstenaars, uit een groeiend aantal disciplines, beschouwen de publieke ruimte als hun werkterrein. Zij werken doorgaans inter- of multidisciplinair en bewegen zich tussen kennisgebieden zoals landschap, architectuur, stedenbouw en sociale wetenschappen, als verbinders van partijen.

More and more artists, from a growing number of disciplines, consider public space as their field of activity. They usually work inter- or multidisciplinary and move between different fields such as landscape-architecture, urban design and social sciences, as connecting parties.
They use a wide range of approaches and their work is not always recognizable as art. There are artists who manifest themselves as social designers, with projects that demonstrate a great social commitment.

Selma Hengeveld (NL); www.selmahengeveld.nl
This year we’re working with a guest-curator, Selma Hengeveld. Selma is a visual artist and works with photography, film and performance. In her work she conducts research into social structures and public space. She followed the occupation of a piece of no man’s land, made an audio performance about Tinder and wondered how we can visualise the phenomenon of bureaucracy. Lectures, workshops and performances are programmed simultaneously at an inspiring location that is representative for the Festival. This year the location is for the 3rd time the ZoHo quarter, one of the most active city maker areas in the Netherlands.
